Nepal have withdrawn from the qualifiers of the AFC U-19 Championship 2012.
The withdrawal resulted in a change of match schedule for Group A which will be hosted by Bangladesh from 25 October to 2 November 2011.
This is the first time that Nepal have pulled out its participation from the age bar tournament in its football history.
The participating teams have to pay USD 20,000 to the hosting country. However, ANFA will have to pay USD 10,000 as the fine to AFC for not participating in the qualifiers.
The contestants in Group A now are Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman, Bangladesh and Maldives
The news comes in the wake of a dispute between national coach Graham Roberts and his Under-19 counterpart, Kishor KC, over the availability of players for the qualifiers in Bangladesh.
With one eye on preparations for December’s South Asian Football Federation Championship , Roberts had insisted that Under-19 players Rohit Chand, Jagjeet Shrestha and Sujal Shrestha would not be made available for the qualifiers.
“We are training hard for the SAFF Championship and I cannot risk sending them,” Roberts said at the time.
“I have talked to the All Nepal Football Federation president and he has said that my decision will be final regarding the senior team.
“If those players are released without my consent, I will go home the very next day,” he had concluded
