Aerial View of  Statue
Located in Saanga, the border of Bhaktapur and Kavre districts, this 108 ft tall statue of Lord Shiva is supposedly the tallest statue of Lord Shiva in the world. The combined height along with the base is about 144ft. The picture of the Shiva idol shows him holding a Trishul in one hand and other hand is in blessing posture. The murti (idol) is made of cement and can withstand minor earth quakes and strong  wind. There is a children's park and other recreational features around the statue that makes it a popular destination for visitors.

About half and hour from Kathmandu, it boasts amazing views of the city and the mountains and lush green of  Bhaktapur fields. It is located 22 kms in eastern direction of Kathmandu and 5 kms west from banepa near araniko highway. The tallest Shiva statue in the world is constructed on the financial support of Kamal Jain who follows Jain religion. Now, doesn't it seem like there's much needed thing called religious solidarity in Nepal. Mr. Jain who is the proprietor of Hilltake water tank, one of the leading water tank industries in Nepal is beleived to have invested more than 11 crores to build this statue.

During the unveiling, a helicopter of Fishtail Air was throwing flowers on the statue from above.

The construction took 6 years and involved 100 Nepali and skilled labors from India. The construction of foundation alone took two years. To protect the statue from natural factors like sun, wind, and rain, it is coated with zinc. It is further coated with copper on top of zinc coating. According to Kamal Jain, the outer cover of the statue contains 6000 kgs of zinc and copper.

It was inaugurated by Nepalese Tourism Minister Sharad Singh Bhandari of that time on on june 20th 2010.  A concept of homestay has also been launched in this site to promote local tourism. And I strongly feel that is the most attractive dating spot for the couple away from hustle and bustly of kathmandu city . One can have panoramic views of mountain and enjoy the nature. One can take advantage of natural therapy and other recreational activities in the centre.
