Sergio Aguero Is Better Suited To Chelsea Than Manchester City

Sergio Aguero Is Better Suited To Chelsea Than Manchester City – Former Atletico Madrid Team-Mate Diego Forlan

But the ex-Manchester United man insists that, should Carlos Tevez stay at the club, the pair can forge a 'sensational' partnership

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan believes former team-mate Sergio Aguero would have been better off going to Chelsea than Manchester City.

Forlan, who spent a largely unsuccessful spell at Manchester United, suggested that Chelsea’s style of play may be better suited to the Argentine international.

Forlan told The People: "It was no real surprise to see him leave, but I thought it would have been to a different club.

"Chelsea's game and squad are more suited to his style. Of course I am a Manchester United fan, so his decision to move to City is also painful for me."

Forlan was also keen to offer a word of caution about English football to Aguero, who was signed by Manchester City for £38 million.

He added: "I know City are now one of the big clubs in England, so I wish Sergio luck. But I know from my own time in England that the Premier League is not like La Liga.

"The key for him will be how he adapts to the style of the game and also the country," he continued
Forlan added: "The best asset of Aguero is the number of goals he scores, and when he scores them. He is a killer and could also destroy many defenders with his dribbles.

"Personally, it is bad news to me because I will now miss a big companion in attack at Atletico. He is not the tallest, but that is not a problem, and neither is the hardness of the English defenders."

After Carlos Tevez reaffirmed his desire to leave the Etihad Stadium, City accelerated their interest in Aguero, as Roberto Mancini looked to sign a replacement for his star striker.

But following the collapse of his move to Corinthians, it remains a possibility that Tevez could remain with the club, and Forlan believes the two Argentines could form a formidable partnership.

"I do not know if [Carlos] Tevez will stay at City, but a Tevez-Aguero pairing could be sensational for City.

“For La Liga, this is all bad news [Aguero's departure], but for the Premier League, it's a success to have such a player."

Atletico Madrid's Sergio Aguero signs for Manchester City

Forward Sergio Aguero has completed a switch to Manchester City from Atletico Madrid, the player has announced via Twitter.

"I am a City player already. I am happy to be at this club and in this city. Thank you everyone for the welcome and the reception !!!," Aguero tweeted.

The Argentina international flew to Manchester on Wednesday morning and spent the entire afternoon in talks with City to discuss his contract.

It is believed Aguero has signed a five-year deal with City worth around 225,000 euros per week, though neither club has so far confirmed any details about the transfer or the player's contract.

Goal.com understands that the player will cost City 43 million euros plus performance-related add-ons, which falls just shy of the 45 million euros release clause attached to his Atletico contract.

Aguero joined Atletico in 2006 after three years in Independiente's senior ranks, and quickly emerged as one of the game's most talented strikers.

During his time at the Spanish capital club, he helped Atletico win the 2009-10 Europa League and the following UEFA Super Cup, but such success did not prevent him from airing his wish for a new challenge at the end of the last season.

Real Madrid and Juventus were both thought to be leading the chase for Aguero's signature at first, but as neither side managed to come to an agreement with his employers, Manchester City came in quickly with their chequebook to sign the player.

The move is likely to signal the departure of compatriot Carlos Tevez to Inter, with the Serie A side understood to be in talks with City for a season-long loan.
